Importance of Using Proper Cargo Lashing Services

Lashing Services

Lashing of cargo involves securing the cargo for transportation to minimize shifting. The cargo can be secured using lashing items like ropes, cables, wires, chains, strapping, and nets. These items are tied to the Cargo Transport Unit (CTU) and tensioned against the cargo. Lashing products and methods are governed by various authorities to prevent any accidents from happening during transit. Businesses need to partner up with the best lashing services provider as they would be able to provide an experienced team to handle the cargo lashing requirements.

Incorrect securing of cargo or lack of proper lashing is the cause of several accidents. Every load being transported should be safeguarded from sliding, tipping, and rolling by methods such as locking, blocking, lashing or a combination of any of these methods. There are forces like climatic conditions and acceleration forces that act upon loads during transit. Acceleration forces like full braking, cornering, lane changing, obstacle avoidance, and rolling factor during road transportation should also be taken into consideration while lashing the cargo. Proper methods to secure cargo should be done to protect the cargo, vehicle, and other people involved in transporting the cargo. Lack of proper lashing can also lead to liability and negligence claims, criminal prosecution, higher insurance premiums, and reputational damage.

Cargo is handled by many different parties, from the factory until it is delivered to the point of destination. It is important to secure your cargo properly and to do so responsible cargo lashing services should be engaged.

Cargo movement should not be attempted for any distance without the application of basic lashings. Lashings are used to create a force in the opposite direction of the inertia forces. Examples of lashings are web lashings, load binders with chain, and fixed winches.

Web lashings

Web lashing is one of the most common ways of securing cargo. They usually consist of two branches with a manual ratchet on the short branch with the ends of the web lashings belts equipped with different types of hooks or rings. These hooks or rings help to properly attach the lashing in or on lashing points on the vehicle or the cargo.

Chain lashings

Lashing chains are commonly used to secure extremely heavy loads and the cargo to be lashed has zero stretch margins. Chain lashings are more preferable as they limit the number of lashings required as chains provide a much higher securing force than web lashings. Chains are provided with a tensioning device, that can be a fixed part of the chain or a separate device that is fixed along the chain to be tensioned.

Fixed winches

Winches are safety equipment that is used in flatbed trucks and trailers for cargo securing. It provides support and depending on the functionality, transport carrier, and cargo different types of winches are available. Fixed winches are often mounted on the outside of the load bearer which can be bolted or welded in place.

In Conclusion

A good lashing services provider would make or break your business and choosing the right partner to facilitate your lashing requirements should be done after careful and considerable deliberation.
